two new finds

Gary is out of town today so I have been totally useless.  I have had the Food Network on all morning but my attention has been on reading blogs.  I never really knew there are soooo many great ones out there.  This could really get addicting!  I came along two wonderful ideas that I would have never thought about in a million years.  Ways to recycle old things.  The first one is from a blog called 1829 Farm House where she turned 3 old chairs into one bench.  Such a cute idea!

The other one is from my newest favorite blog called Funky Junk.  This one is even more creative than the first.  Here she took a real piece of junk and got a wonderful, useful wall piece.  Look at this!

That is an old bed spring....maybe from a baby bed.  These women have amazing ideas.  Thought you might enjoy their blogs.  I really need to get up and do something constructive - like wash my face and put on makeup! ha  Have a great weekend and a Blessed day!

New Friends and the Captain

Remember a few post back, I told you about having new friends over for dinner. There were 3 out of the 4 people we invited who were new to our town and our church. Well that dinner was a success and since then, the women have gone to lunch at a restaurant and yesterday we had lunch at one of our new friend's home. We have included another person from our Sunday School class who didn't know many people either. She was actually a neighbor to one of the newer people. So now, we have formed a foursome that enjoys having lunch and doing things together. I guess that really does mean the first night of entertaining was truly a success! One nice thing about meeting new people is finding new recipes and in this case a whole new ingredient! Voila!.........

That would be Captain Rodney’s Boucan Glaze which can be purchased at http://www.theeverydaygourmet.com/
And the new recipe is:

Captain Cheese Bake

½ c. mayo
8 oz. pkg. cream cheese (softened)
2 c. grated sharp cheddar cheese
2 green onions (chopped)
6 Ritz crackers (crushed)
4 Slices bacon (cooked & crumbled)
½ c. Captain Rodney’s Boucan Glaze
Mix mayo, cream cheese, cheddar cheese & onions in greased quiche pan. Top with crackers and bake at 350 Deg. For 15 or 20 min. Top with bacon and Captain Rodney’s glaze. Serve with crackers and enjoy!

The picture is borrowed from the Pioneer Woman's website.  Thanks Pioneer Woman and we all know everything she makes is wonderful so you know this will be to die for too!  I don't know if the person that served this has ever heard of the Pioneer Woman, but I found the recipe there also.  The glaze can be put on most anything I would guess.  It is sweet and reminds me of pepper jelly in a liquid form.  I think I could have eaten the whole recipe!
You know, one night of opening our house has led to more blessings than we would have ever expected - new friends, new activities, new ingredients and new recipes - and probably new inches on the old body! ha
Have a Blessed day!

Very Important People

Got my office repainted this week.  What a difference that makes!  I will post pictures when it is totally finished.  But, while I was moving things around I came across this picture.  Do you recognize these people?
Yep!  One is Whitney and the other one is none other than Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates.  He was the president of Texas A&M while Whitney was going to school there.  This picture gets more impressive over time since both people in the picture are achieving more and more in their lives! ha  (One is in Washington D.C. and the other is teaching in Hazen, Ar.  Both are involved in wars of their own kind! ha)  Another thing about Whitney's graduation was that the speaker was Barbara Bush.  She is so funny and entertaining.  I love hearing her speak.  If was a fun and cold weekend and needless to say, Gary and I are very proud of our daughter.  Thanks for letting me reminisce.  On May 8th, we will be attending another graduation where Whitney will be getting her masters!  Wonder if we can top this one?
